Journeying towards Holy Week with Children

Holy Week is an important time in the Christian year. It’s also filled with complex ideas, images and stories about a deeply violent part of the Christian faith—when Jesus was murdered by the state. Anti-Semitism is all-too-common among Christian churches during Holy Week, and so it is important to be mindful of the ways Christians place ourselves over against Jewish people. (See these resources for more information on Christian Anti-Semitism and how to confront it.)

Check out these graphics below for some tips and suggestions for accompanying children through Holy Week and Easter. Images can be downloaded in a file at the end of the blog.

Also, see this article from Traci Smith, author of Faithful Families, about the violence of the cross and her article on Laura Alary’s Make Room: A Child’s Guide to Lent and Easter.
